The Information Literacy Center (ILC) celebrated the 88th National Book Week with the theme, “BASA. BAYAN. BUKAS.” focusing on Filipino authors. The said theme aims to promote awareness of the positive influence of books and reading on our nation’s history. The celebration launched last November 16, 2022 and was extended until December 9, 2022.

Ms. Marichu Aramante, the grade school librarian, opened the celebration with a compendious speech during the morning assembly on November 16, 2022. The National Book Week consisted of numerous activities namely a book exhibit, a storytelling activity, a story-making workshop, a character presentation, a crossword puzzle, and a webinar.

The celebration embarked on a book exhibit of new acquisitions, which commenced on November 21, 2022, and lasted throughout the entire celebration. This exhibit was held in the ILC, and is accessible to everyone. An array of books with organized sections, including the Filipiniana Collection, was displayed for everyone to read and enjoy.

Next, a storytelling activity entitled “Mga Kuwentong Aral ni Ate at Kuya” was set for Grades 1, 2, and 3. Meanwhile, “Mga Gawaing Kuwentong Aral ni Ate at Kuya,” a story-making workshop, was done by Senior High School students.

After, a Pinoy book character presentation for Preschool students was conducted. The students dressed as their favorite Pinoy book characters, and they proudly presented their costumes by parading around the school.

Moreover, the “Filipino Literacy Crossword Puzzle” was held for Junior High School students. Lastly, the celebration closed with an illuminating webinar entitled “Research 101: General Concepts and Skills” for Senior High School students.

The remarkable and informative celebration ended successfully as the goal to raise awareness was achieved. Filipino authors were given appreciation, and students are now well-informed about the beneficial effects of books and reading. Truly, another enlightening event was made possible through the ILC’s commendable efforts.
