Elizabeth Seton School is guided by the following policies: 1. Chronological Age Nursery : must be 4 years old by September Consideration for the age requirements of preschool applicants (i.e. birth dates up to the month of December) is given depending on previous schooling, observed readiness during testing and the test results. For grade school and high school, the age of the applicant is only secondary to the academic achievement in the previous school. 2. Readiness / Previous Academic Qualifications a. Nursery and Kinder Level The child must be independent. He must be able to eat by himself. He should be able to communicate his needs clearly. He must be willing to come to school and to the classroom unaccompanied. Nursery and Kinder applicants must take a readiness examination. They are given one year to meet the prescribed standards of the school for academic skills, work habits and attitudes. If they are unable to show readiness for the next level, they will be advised to transfer to another school. b. Preparatory Level The child must have attended a complete school year in a recognized school for Kinder. He must pass the ESS tests for English, Math and Practical Skills. c. Grades 1-4 and I-II Year High School Levels Student transferees must be currently enrolled or must have completed the previous school year and promoted to the next level. They must have a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 83% based on the First to the Second / Third quarter grades on the major academic subjects: English, Math, Science, Filipino and Social Studies, with NO FAILING MARKS in any subject and in Megaskills / Values Promoted in any quarter. This applies to transferees from local schools. Applicants from foreign schools are evaluated only on English, Math and Science. The GPA is computed by first obtaining the average of grades from the first to the second / third quarter for each major subject. Then, the general average for all the said major subjects is computed. Admission of applicants for Grades 5 – 6 and III-IV Year High School is discouraged for reasons such as adjustment difficulties and tenure. The former puts the applicant at risk of not being able to meet the ESS requirements on the terminal years for graduation. The latter pertains to the required minimum two-year residency for graduation with the ESS diploma. Applications for these levels may be reconsidered only based on acceptable academic achievement in the previous school, parents’ commitment to comply with the conditions of the school and / or reasons deemed valid by the Admission Committee and top management. |
